About Nunki — Crafting Luxury Shawls & Premium Throws
Nunki is a celebration of love, travel, and the quiet luxury of textiles. Founded by Ruchika Mehra Kothari and rooted in a four-generation family textile heritage, it exists because we believe that the accessories closest to your skin deserve the same level of intention and craft as the clothes you build your wardrobe around. We are a luxury shawls, stoles, and premium throws brand — and every decision we make, from the fibre we source to the pattern we develop to the way we package each piece, reflects that belief.
The Nunki Story: Where Luxury Shawls Begin
Our journey began in 2002 as Shawlart — one of the first brands in Mumbai to present shawls as design-led fashion accessories rather than purely functional pieces. Over nearly two decades, Shawlart pioneered a new way of thinking about wraps and stoles, blending Indian textile heritage with contemporary creativity. In 2019, that vision evolved into Nunki, named after a star that symbolises radiance, joy, and meaningful moments. With the rebrand came an expansion into home accessories and lifestyle pieces inspired by nature, travel, and thoughtful design. The thread running through all of it: a family's deep-rooted love for textiles, supported by the manufacturing expertise of RMBAY, our parent company with over 55 years of spinning and production heritage.
Our Commitment to Craftsmanship
Sourcing the Finest Fibres
We select our fibres with the same care a jeweller applies to gemstones — and with the technical knowledge that comes from over five decades of spinning and manufacturing expertise within the RMBAY family. Our cashmere is sourced from suppliers who meet our grade and traceability standards. Our merino, silk, and silk-wool blends are chosen for their drape, softness, and long-term quality. This commitment is backed by internationally recognised certifications: GOTS, Woolmark, Oeko-Tex, RWS, GRS, and ISO 9001.
From Loom to Label
Every luxury shawl and premium throw in the Nunki collection passes through a defined production process that includes multiple quality checks for weave consistency, colour accuracy, and edge finishing. We do not rush the process. A piece that does not meet our standards is not a Nunki piece.
Artisan Partnerships and Ethical Sourcing
We work with artisan workshops and weavers whose skills have been developed over generations. Our partnerships are built on fair terms and long-term relationships, because we believe the integrity of a luxury shawl begins with the integrity of the people who made it.
The Nunki Design Philosophy
We design for permanence rather than trend. Our collections reference classical textile traditions and print histories, then reinterpret them through a contemporary lens that keeps them relevant and wearable across years of use. Every palette we develop, every pattern we commission, is tested against the question: will this still feel right in ten years? If the answer is yes, it earns a place in the Nunki collection.
Our Collections
The Nunki range covers the full breadth of draped accessories for women. Our luxury shawls include cashmere, merino, and silk-wool options. Our premium throws bring warmth and design to the home as much as to the wardrobe. Our stoles and scarves collections offer lighter-weight choices for year-round styling. Each category is curated, not comprehensive, because we would rather offer fewer things of genuine quality than more things of uncertain origin.
FAQ SECTION — Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where are Nunki's luxury shawls made?
A: Nunki's luxury shawls are crafted in India, working with established weaving workshops that have deep expertise in the specific fibres and techniques our collection requires. We are proud to support and champion Indian textile craftsmanship through every piece we produce.
Q: What fibres does Nunki use in its premium throws and shawls?
A: Our luxury shawls and premium throws are made from a range of carefully selected natural fibres, including fine cashmere, pashmina, fine merino wool, pure silk, and silk-wool blends.
